Controversial Nearly Naked 'Sleepwalker' Statue At Wellesley College Vandalized

Wellesley College’s controversial “Sleepwalker” statue was reportedly vandalized earlier this week, as the lifelike depiction of a nearly naked man was covered head to toe in yellow spray paint, according to The Boston Globe.

Wellesley students criticized the statue when it debuted on campus in February, arguing that it was inappropriate addition to the all-women’s college. A petition to remove the Tony Matelli sculpture gained close to 1,000 signatures.

The Globe reports that the statue was one of four campus locations to be vandalized with yellow paint this week. A campus official told the newspaper that the school is investigating the incidents, but “We don’t have any indication of what it means.”
